Summer Camp Music Festival 2014

checkinitout.jpg

Luckily, being on tour provides a photographer with many opportunities to shoot outside of live music. Whether walking downtown, sightseeing on the occasional day off, my favorite perk of the job is finding these events around the venue. I've found a comic-con in London, the drunks of Ireland, and now perhaps my favorite series, People of Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL.  Hope you enjoy.

Summer Camp Snack time Meandering thru the trails lined by campsites, I walked past these two, stopped, stepped back and took a shot point blank. "Classic," I said before continuing on. Gotcha.

Good Signs I stood behind this cart for 10 seconds before it dusted me away. They never saw me. @beach_jesus, that's a good sign.

It's a small world I love how this shot captured her perfectly in her own little orange world.

The Temporary Tatooist Afterwards I thought about stopping and asking this guy to poke his head out the window so I could take another picture, but I figured the first shot, with ass and all, could not be outdone. For me, the framing is classic voyeurist.. Only a tramp stamp would have made this better.

Free Show This has to be my favorite picture of the entire festival. Walking from the entrance, I noticed a man singing from the top of his lungs. I plopped down immediately, like a catcher anticipating a pitch, and snapped off a couple stills.  I love the triangles, humility, and joy of this picture. Not to mention a perfectly framed on-looker that takes the picture to the next level, IMHO.

Baby's First Third Eye Sometimes things are worth documenting, but not explaining. This is one of those instances.

Pins are In

Walking around the festival, there were a lot of people trading pins. I couldn't help but ask this gentlemen and his mustache for a picture.

Open for Business Of all the attractions at Summer Camp, this was not one of them. Hopefully this blog is good for the business.

Man's Best Friend Another voyeuristic on-the-fly shot, I love this one because I was trying for the watchdog and ended up with a bonus booty to boot.  Love how the dude's foot is positioned too. Claim your territory!

The Dad-Sitter I saw this happen from 30 yards away, then realized I had an opportunity to get closer. I finally got within ten yards before dropping to a knee and grabbing the shot. 10 seconds later, I walked away without them ever looking my direction.  Bonus points for bouncy-chamber framing, a mustached kid getting ready to throw a water balloon, and an unlit cigarette in mouth.

Even though my Summer Camp Festival experience was limited to Sunday afternoon before our set, I have to say, the place left an impression on me. Touring across the country tends to make you numb to the events you work, but every so often, I find a spot that reminds me why I love photography so much; the people in the pictures.

Thanks for watching with me.
